The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion, is one of nearly
1000 Veterans & Family Memorial Care (VFMC) providers nationwide who sponsor
VFMC’s annual Operation Valentine. “Students and individual throughout the
community write messages to the troops on Valentine Cards, Cut-Out Hearts, or
whatever they like and we make sure that they are delivered to our brave men and
women serving overseas.”
We are proud to announce that this year, 1042 valentines were collected and sent
to troops currently overseas. The valentines were handmade from students of
Clarion-Limestone, Immaculate Conception, Redbank Valley, Union elementary
schools, along with several community individuals.

Christmas Stockings for Soldiers

The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home of Clarion participated in the annual Veterans & Family Memorial Care “Stockings for Soldiers” initiative to send our troops a little taste of home for the holidays. We provided free Christmas Stockings to be picked up, taken home, and decorated and stuffed with Christmas Cheer. We then shipped the stockings to troops abroad in time for Christmas. “This is a great way for us to show our support for the troops by giving them some holiday cheer. This year, 125 filled stockings were collected and shipped to local soldiers that were not able to make it home for the holidays. The Knights of Columbus and VFW Post #2145, both of Clarion, assisted with shipping expenses.

Robert Burns Funeral Home,
My unit would like to express our gratitude for all the trouble you've gone through to help give us a good Christmas away from home. The stockings were well received, well needed, and handed out to our members all across the country within 2 days. Many many "thank yous" were asked of me to be passed back to the community. Thank you very much for taking the time to assemble everything for us. What are left of the stockings, are now our Christmas decorations for our Tactical Operation Centers across Afghanistan. Again, we would like to extend or heartfelt "thanks" for sending your thoughts, prayer, and wishes. We would also like to wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Thank you very much for the generous care package you sent to my soldiers and me. Being so far from home and our friends and family over the holidays, receiving such support is really a boost to morale and a reminder of why we do what we do. My platoon completed a long move across the country from Basrah to about an hour west of Baghdad just before Christmas. All the items in the care packages we received allowed us to throw a barbeque on Christmas for the entire platoon. Although we are looking forward to spending next holiday season in the states, your contribution helped us all have a Merry Christmas regardless of our location. Thank you so much for your generosity and keeping us in your thoughts. It is amazing how acts of generosity and thanks life the package you sent help carry a soldier through the tough months away from home and all that he or she loves. We are now entering our final month in Iraq, and my soldiers all are anxious to return home. Support such as yours, however, has definitely made the time go by much faster on this deployment. Thanks again for your well-wishes and generosity. It makes our job so much easier knowing we have such strong support back home.
Thanks,
~Joe Marshall and 2nd Platoon Baker Company
Thank you so much for sending the Christmas stockings to my fiancé, LCDR Mark Kircher, and his shipmates aboard USS Abraham Lincoln. Your kindness was much appreciated. Thank you for remembering those deployed.
Kind Regards,
~Alissa Rogers
