Barbara J. Shook

Barbara J. Shook, 69, of Shippenville, died on the morning of March 18, 2013, at the Clarion Hospital following a brief struggle with cancer. She was born on January 26, 1944; the daughter of Robert Jordan and Dr. L.E. Bette Corbett. Barb graduated from Clarion Area High School in 1962. Fifty years ago, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Shook, on August 4, 1962. Mr. Shook survives. Barb was an active member of her community through past volunteerism with the Clarion Hospital Guild and the Clarion Chamber of Commerce. Barb and her husband owned small businesses throughout their life together; Odds and Ends Gift Shop, Shook’s Office Supply, The County Seat Restaurant, and an Amway distribution. In her early days, she worked at Jeri’s Dress Shop and Emerson’s Restaurant. In previous years, Barb enjoyed camping at Wolf’s KOA, spending time with her family and using her gift of interior decorating. Barb was a member of the Clarion First United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Barb is also survived by one son Randy (Rhonda) Shook of Clarion; two daughters, Pamela (Gregory) Carlson of Florence, SC, and Kristin (Steven) Bowser of Shippenville; and six grandchildren, Kaleb (Sarah) Carlson, Kelsey Carlson, Brandon and Brooke Bowser, and Lindsay and Maya Shook. Barb was expecting her first great grandchild in October. “Nana” adored her grandchildren and spoiled them as often as she could. Also surviving are a sister, Cheryl Hartman and friend, Michael Hayes, of Richmond, VA; sisters-in-law, Judy Schwab and Suzanne Shook; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Ernest and Jessie Shook; her sister-in-law, Kaye Pollock; and brothers-in-law, Karl Shook, Ron Pollock, and Herman Schwab. Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. in the funeral home following visitation with Rev. Dr. Deryl Larsen, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Barb’s name to Charitable Deeds, 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox PA 16232; or the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 600 Wood Street, Clarion PA 16214.
