Betty Jo McKinney

Betty Jo McKinney, 62, of Sligo, passed away early Saturday morning, April 6, 2024 at Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on September 8, 1961 in Brookville; daughter of the late Phil and Betty Switzer Kriebel. Betty Jo attended Union High School where she was involved in basketball and cheerleading. She then became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1987 and obtained an Associates Degree in Science of Nursing at Clarion University in 1995. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Clarion Hospital from 1987 to 2023 and at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo from 1988 to 1990. Betty Jo married the love of her life, Dennis McKinney, on July 9, 2005, who survives. She was of the Protestant faith. Betty Jo was a member of the American Legion Post #066 of Clarion. She enjoyed karaoke, listening to the Wranglers Country Band, line dancing, ceramics, sewing, cooking and always looked forward to preparing large family dinners. Betty Jo also enjoyed riding in the convertible and traveling, especially to the beach. In addition to her husband, Betty Jo is survived by her children, Virgil Marsh, Jr. and his wife, Misty, of Rimersburg, Mike Marsh and his wife, Heather, also of Rimersburg, Jon McKinney and his wife, Laurie, of Winston Salem, NC, Sarah Grant and her husband, Zander, of Sligo, and Drew Marsh and his wife, Madison, of Marble and her grandchildren, Mitchell, Clayton, Kira, Gavin, Braxton, Peter, Regan, Benson and Joseph Marsh, Theo and Lewy McKinney, Emmitt Creed, Montgomery and Adelaide Grant, and a grandchild expecting to arrive in September. She is also survived by her sisters, Cherrie Miller of Bruin, Ruthann Myers and her husband, Doug of Shippenville and Pam Craig and her husband, Mouse, of Sligo and her brother, Samuel Merryman of Portland, TX. In addition to her parents, Betty Jo was preceded in death by an infant child. Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in the funeral home with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Phillips presiding. Interment will take place in the Sligo Cemetery.
