George A. Rapp Sr.

George Andrew Rapp Sr., 81, of Fulton Road, Shippenville, died Sunday morning, November 14, 2010, at Clarion Hospital. Born July 26, 1929, in Marble, he was the son of Leanus and Irene Hartle Rapp. Mr. Rapp was married on July 23, 1955 to the former Mildred R. McClune, who survives. They recently observed their 55th Wedding Anniversary. A veteran, he served in the Army during the Korean War. Mr. Rapp worked in the lumber industry for many years and was later an Elk Township Supervisor. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. Mr. Rapp was also a member of the American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Mary Coder and husband, Dave, of Falls Creek; his two sons, George A. Rapp Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Shippenville; and Philip R. Rapp and wife, Bonnie, of Shippenville; five granddaughters, Kristy Coder and husband, Sam Baughman, of Shippenville; and Rachel, Ashley, Heather, and Autumn Rapp, all of Shippenville; one great grandson, Tyler Baughman of Reynoldsville; a great granddaughter due in December; four step-grandchildren; and nine step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are ten siblings, Ethel Sharpe of Oil City; Anna Snyder and husband, Ken, of Snydersburg; Katherine Larrow of Leeper; Barb Buzard and husband, Joe, of Knox; Harold Rapp and wife, Patty, of Miola; David Rapp and wife, Joyce, of Shippenville; Frank Rapp and wife, Bonnie, of Oil City; Richard Rapp and wife, Ruth, of Lickingville; Robert Rapp and wife, Cindy, of Lake Lucy; and Paul Rapp and wife, Sheryl, of Lickingville; one brother-in-law, Don McClune and wife, Caroline, of Clarion; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Rapp of Marble; and Joann Rapp of Lickingville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Rapp, Gerald Rapp, and Charles Rapp; one sister, Dorothy Caltagarone; five nephews, Matt Rossey, Leanus Rapp, Michael Rapp, Thomas Rapp, and Dennis McClune; and three brothers-in-law, Harold McClune, Glen McClune, and Robert McClune. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, in the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, in the funeral home by American Legion Post 66. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, presiding. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Mausoleum.
