Germaine E. Schill

Germaine Emma Schill, 93, of Clarion, passed away peacefully Monday evening, May 20, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 3, 1930, in Marble; daughter of the late Leo X. and Nellie Weaver Strickenberger. Germaine married Peter J. Schill on June 19, 1954. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2011. Germaine worked at Sylvania in Brookville assembling transistors for a number of years. In 1960, she and her husband introduced pizza to Clarion when they opened Harry’s Pizza Shop on Main Street. They also owned and operated Harry’s Pizza Shops in Oil City, Reynoldsville and Punxsutawney. In 1973 they opened the Pizza Pub in Clarion, which remains a family business. She had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and camping and passed that love of nature onto her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. For many years, she maintained a large vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed canning. She was an avid reader and bird watcher and especially enjoyed spending time with her family at their camp. She was an enthusiastic card player and loved playing Euchre and Kings in the Corner. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s many sporting events. Family was very important to Germaine, and she had a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews. She had a beautiful smile and a beautiful spirit that touched everyone who knew her. Germaine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. Germaine is survived by her 6 children, Ray Schill and his wife, Laura, of Philadelphia, Donna Haney and her husband, Jim, of Brookville, Dan Schill and his wife, Karol, of Boise, Idaho, Karen Raybuck and her husband, Ken, of Fairmount City, Mike Schill and his wife, Jean, of Lucinda, and Tom Schill and his wife, Leslie, of Bend, Oregon; 15 grandchildren, Chris Schill, Gregg Schill, Jeff Schill and his wife, Mina, Lisa Tibbs and her husband, Jon, Travis Haney and his wife, Michelle, Nicole Kindl Olha, Brook Schill, Petie Schill, Doug Raybuck and his wife, Leslie, Tim Raybuck, Tyler Raybuck and his wife, Devina, Eric Schill and his wife, Dani, Marisa Cyphert and her husband, Evan, Madison Schill and Claire Maielua; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Freda Schwabenbauer, of Clarion and a sister-in-law, Patrica Strickenberger, of Oil City, along with numerous special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Germaine was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Strickenberger and Benjamin Strickenberger; a sister-in law, Helen Strickenberger; and a brother-in-law, Robert Schwabenbauer. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Jean Babyak and Kristie Weaver for their love, special care and friendship they provided over the last several years. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24,2024, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Monty Sayers presiding and Rev. Michael Polinek, Pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, concelebrating. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
