John B. Pokrifka

John B. “Pokey” Pokrifka, 90, of Strattanville, passed away early Thursday morning, May 26, 2016 at the Clarion Hospital. He was born on January 22, 1926 in Munhall; son of the late Frank and Anna Bernot Pokrifka. Pokey was married on April 15, 1969 to the former Kathy Slagle who survives. He retired as a Union Carpenter. Pokey was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion, also the Mill Creek Coalition, and former member of the Seneca Rocks Audubon Society and the Strattanville Sportsman’s Club. Pokey enjoyed swimming and you could often find him at the mouth of Mill Creek swimming in the River. He also enjoyed canoeing, hiking, hunting, fishing, and loved spending time with friends and family. Pokey is survived by his wife, one daughter Ann M. Jamison and her husband Larry of Limestone, one brother, Sylvester Pokrifka and wife Connie of Virginia, two sisters, Marcella Dospoy and Dorothy Kostovny both of Munhall, two granddaughters, Lauren and Emily Jamison both of Limestone. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Tom Pokrifka, and his brothers, Francis, Leo, Charlie, Raymond, Anthony, Eugene, and Larry, and his sisters, Josephine, Harbodin, Sister M. Christina Prokrifka order of Holy Ghost, and Eleanor Pokrifka. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. A Christian wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with the Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor as presider. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in John’s name to the Clarion Forest VNA, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion PA, 16214.
