Judith M. Cuyjet

Judith M. Cuyjet, age 86, of Clarion, PA, formerly of New Jersey, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 15, 2026, at Laurelbrooke Personal Care in Brookville, PA. She was born on January 19, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, the oldest and last surviving child of the late William Thomas Hendricks and Marion Helene Durham Cuyjet. Judy also had a special bond with her late stepfather, Stephen Lane Cuyjet, Sr., and her late grandparents, Frances Henritta Morgan and Alonzo Duriam, who helped raise her. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School and continued her education at Maryland State College at Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland, earning minors in Physical Education and, later, English. Judy first married Chauncey Sonderlon Poulson on August 12, 1961, who preceded her in death. She then married William Elmer Colvin in May of 1977, who also preceded her in death. Judy taught at Cherokee High School in Marlton, New Jersey, when it first opened in 1975. She was a freshman English teacher and senior creative drawing and writing teacher, retiring in 2002. While there, Judy directed two musicals, “My Fair Lady” and “On the Town,” and was also the Burlington County Teacher of the Year in 1982. She was well known for her amazing talent in ballet dancing. At a young age, Judy was introduced to dancing by her mom, who owned her own dancing studio, Judimar, in Philadelphia, PA. She idolized her mom and was part of Judimar for several years, dancing and teaching, and then decided to continue her talent at the Capital of Ballet in Washington, D.C. Judy was a member of Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Cherry Hill, NJ, where she also participated in the weekly knitting group. Judy loved knitting, especially sweaters and beanies for the children in need. She was incredibly creative and artistic and carried that trait with her everywhere she went. Judy is survived by her daughter, Kaersten Colvin-Woodruff, and her husband, Russell, of Clarion, PA; her son, Erik Sonderlon Colvin, of Los Angeles, CA; and her granddaughter, Olivia Woodruff, and her boyfriend, Edward McCarry, of Queens, NY. In addition to her parents and both husbands, Judy was preceded in death by her two brothers, Stephen Lane Cuyjet, Jr., and Mark Francis Cuyjet. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion has the distinct honor of serving the family. A memorial service will be held at Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Cherry Hill, NJ, at a later date.
