Leonard S. Aaron

Leonard S. Aaron, age 92, of Shippenville, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2026, at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with his beloved wife at his side. He was born on December 22, 1933, in Crates. Leonard was one of six children of the late Stephen S. and Ida Mae Fiscus Aaron. He enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving on the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier until his honorable discharge. Leonard married the love of his life, Mona M. Mowrey, on September 3, 1957, and they shared over sixty-eight wonderful years of marriage. He worked as a mechanic at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion, where he was a member of the Gold Emblem Club. Leonard was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and camping, and took pride in his big garden every year. In addition to his wife, Leonard leaves behind his three daughters, Cindy Johnson and her husband, Randy, of Shippenville, and twin daughters, Diane Best of Shippenville and Denise Smerkar and her husband, Randy, of Erie; eight grandchildren, Shannon Beichner and her husband, Dan, of Sharon, Jason Best and his wife, Kari, of Knox, Brittany Clark and her husband, William, also of Knox, Brandon Johnson and his wife, Kelsey, of Clarion, Ashley West of California, Lauren Caro and her husband, Travis, of Marienville, Brianna Trott and her husband, Jacob, of Erie, and Ryan Smerkar and his fiancé, Caroline, also of Erie; and nine adored great-grandchildren, Mason and Madison Beichner, Rowen and Lyncoln Best, Hank Clark, Myla and Easton Johnson, and Cyril and Ellowynn Trott. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Lois Kersey and Shirley Drew, both of Kentucky. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his three brothers, Don Aaron, Clifford Aaron, and Paul Aaron. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Military Honors will be accorded at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, by the Clarion American Legion Post #066 at the First Baptist Church of Clarion, where funeral services will immediately follow with Rev. Jason Hunter presiding. Interment will take place at the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Leonard’s honor to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 651, Clarion, PA 16214 or the Clarion Forest VNA, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
