Madelyn R. Heagerty

Madelyn Ruth Hartle Heagerty, 80, of the Troese Edition, Clarion, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Serenity House in Shippenville surrounded by her family’s love, following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on May 8, 1934, in Clarion; she was the daughter of the late Amos Aloysius and Folsom Irene Dunkle Hartle. Madelyn attended Immaculate Conception School where she graduated in 1952. She then went to work at the telephone company as an operator before attending school to be an airline reservationist. She married James William Heagerty of Oswego, NY on June 8, 1957. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1993. They lived in several places in the northeastern part of the United States where Jim served in the United States Navy. Madelyn worked at the Northstars Hockey Arena during their time in Minnesota. When Jim retired from the Navy in 1973, they moved back to Clarion, where she worked at National Fuel Gas for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion, the Church Guild, the Red Hat Society, and the Clarion Area Booster Club. Madelyn’s life was totally devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family and spent her time after retirement visiting them. Survivors include two sons, Mark Heagerty and wife, Kathy, of Canfield, OH and their three children, Kate of Boardman, OH and Kevin and Megan, both of Canfield, OH; Kevin Heagerty and his three children, Meredith, Haley, and Hannah and their mother, Wendy Heagerty, all of Hanover; and three daughters, Kathleen Mabry of Erie and friend, Gene Price of Oil City; Michele Newhouse and husband, Tim, of Clarion and their three children, Lauren and fiancé, Scott Larson, of Rochester, NY and Jenna and Jamie, both of Clarion; and Kelly Kiser and husband, Phil, of Clarion and their three children, Greta of Charlotte, NC and Andrea and Olivia, both of Clarion. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; close friend, Louise Ferringer of Clarion; and close classmates since grade school, Naomi Summerville, Mary Jane Phillips Gardina, Joann Birocco Johnson, Bea Miller Martino, and Shirley Frederick. In addition to her husband and parents, Madelyn was preceded in death by sisters, Jane Cyphert, Ann Magrini, and Teresa Caldwell; brothers, Paul Hartle, Claire Hartle, Jerome Hartle, Rich Hartle, and infant brother, Robert Hartle. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Clarion, with Madelyn’s nephew, Father Tom Hartle, presiding, and Father Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, concelebrating. Entombment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice Serenity House, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion PA 16214; or the Tri-County Animal Rescue Center, 9562 Route 322, Shippenville PA 16254. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Clarion.
