Margaret C. Port

Margaret “Margy” Colteryahn Port began her eternal life on Sunday, August 24, 2025. On October 13, 1955, William and Carolyn Colteryahn from Pittsburgh, PA celebrated the birth of a baby girl. She was introduced to all as Margaret “Margy” Kay Colteryahn. She was later joined by her sisters, Jeanne and Mary, and brother, Barry, to form a close-knit family of 6. Margy married on June 28, 1980, and from that day forward was proud to be Mrs. John Port. Margy and John were blessed with a son, John-Scott, and then a daughter, Katie. Margy supported their every activity. She proudly nurtured them through college into successful careers. As Margy neared retirement, her children further blessed Margy with 4 grandchildren. John-Scott and Gina Port brought Henry and Olive into Margy’s arms. Kate and Brad Roth brought Bryce and Evalyn. Each became the center of Margy’s world as she eagerly served as Meem. The Port household was filled with toys and décor with which to celebrate every day. But, more than anything else, the house was filled with love. Margy loved her family. She instantly became a farm wife when she married John. Margy jumped into farm life with both feet, making hay, providing business advice, creating signage, and countless other activities. This was in addition to her full-time position as teacher and adjunct instructor at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Her role as a traveling teacher to the deaf and hard of hearing community brought her into wide contact with a broad range of people, including outreach into the Amish community. Margy loved the farm. She loved nature, walks in the woods, animals, and flowers, especially wildflowers. Her own flower gardens were magnificent to behold. She also loved to travel with family, but especially with John. Travel might have been as simple as a date night to the Dairy Queen or as difficult – for a farmer – as a trip to Hilton Head or Wildwood. Margy never needed a special reason to celebrate. Visitors to the farm were greeted with welcome signs, streamers, confetti, and Margy wrapped in garland. Time on the farm was filled with games and celebration. Each game was an unforgettable event. Margy loved celebrating life with friends and family. One of Margy’s greatest passions was studying the Bible and living the life that Christ wanted for her. She attended Hope Rising Church. Margy instilled in her family (and planted the seeds in others) that Christ was our Lord and Savior. She and John lived the “be sent” message as they traveled to Uganda on a mission trip. Margy loved Jesus Christ. Her faith was unquestionable. Her place in Heaven is assured. That should bring comfort to those of us left behind, because we of faith will see her welcoming us again with streamers and confetti. Margy is survived by husband John Port, son, John-Scott Port and his wife, Gina, daughter, Katie Roth and her husband, Brad, grandchildren, Henry and Olive Port and Bryce and Evalyn Roth, sister, Jeanne Jacobs and her husband, Denny, sister, Mary Prowant and her husband, Don, John’s brother, Scott Port, John’s sister, Susan Aaron and her husband, Paul, and John’s sister, Anne Phillips and her husband, Todd. Lots and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins, and others also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Colteryahn, her father, William Colteryahn, her brother, Barry Colteryahn, her mother-in-law, Jeanne Port, and her father-in-law, Winfield Port. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion is handling the arrangements. The public is invited to a celebration of life at Hope Rising Church in Clarion on Saturday, August 30 at 2 p.m. Guests are asked only to bring a memory of Margy to be written on a card provided at the church to be kept as a keepsake by the family.
