Marie B. Lahr

Marie B. Lahr, 98, of Clarion, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, May 17, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 26, 1926 in Redbank Township to the late Carl R. and Rhoda B. Plyer Smith. Marie was a graduate of Clarion Limestone High School and a current member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion. She was married on September 24, 1946 to the love of her life, Edward J. Lahr, who was the most handsome man she ever met. They shared 67 years together until his passing. In her earlier years, Marie was a homemaker while raising her children. Once they were at school age, she worked at Jeri's Dress Shop and then Bendix as a seamstress until she retired. After Ed retired, they purchased a camp in Scandia where they spent most of their summers and wintered in Florida. Marie love the beach and walked countless miles on the Gulf Coast collecting shells that she used to make crafts. She also loved a good patio party, taking bus trips and never turned down a trip to the casino, even at the age of 98. Marie had a great sense of humor and was well-known for speaking her mind. She is survived by her 4 children whom were her pride and joy, Steven Lahr and his wife, Susan, of Douglasville, GA, Bernard Lahr and his wife, Kathy, of Milton, PA, Rita Over and her husband, Joseph, of Clarion, PA, and Susie Lahr of Mechanicsburg, PA; her 5 grandchildren whom she loved dearly and spent time with as much as she could, Jason Lahr of South Bend, IN, Melissa Lahr of Atlanta, GA, Stehany Kerce and her husband, Ryan, of Dallas, GA, Rikki Rex and her husband, Joseph, of Chippewa, PA, and Renee Miller and her husband, Matthew, of Littleport, England; and her 6 great-grandchildren whom she shared a very special bond with, Gabe Kerce of Dallas, GA, Carsten, Torin, and Awyn Miller of Littleport, England, and Landon and Lincoln Rex of Chippewa, PA. Marie is also survived by her sister, Vivian Algoe, and her sister-in-law, Marjory Smith. In addition to her parents and loving husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard E. Lahr and her brothers, Wayne Smith and Ralph Smith. The family would like to extend a special thank you to (as Marie would say, “her girls”) Amy and Angie, from AseraCare Hospice for their loving care and compassion. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion is handling the arrangements. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with Rev. Samuel Bungo presiding. Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
