Patricia L. Martz

Patricia L. Schaeffer Martz, 87, of Templeton, formerly of Clarion, went to be with Jesus on Friday evening, March 21, 2025 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford. She was born at home in Paint Township on November 20, 1937 to the late Walter and Celia Reddinger Schaeffer. Patty was a 1955 graduate of Clarion Area High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Harry E. “Ellzie” Martz, Jr., on November 25, 1955 by Rev. Alfred J. Fischer at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion. Ellzie preceded her in death on October 8, 2024. They were married for 68 years. Patty was a homemaker while raising her daughters and was a talented seamstress, making many of their clothes. When her daughters were older, Patty went to work at the former Riverside/Bilo in Clarion, retiring after 23 years. In her later years, she enjoyed making purses, some of which were donated for fundraisers. Patty also enjoyed baking, shelling at Sanibel and spending time with her family. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Susan Smith of Surprise, AZ, Leslie (Carl) Wright of Rochester Mills, and Dina (Shawn) Unger of Templeton; 4 grandchildren, Joey (Makayla) Unger, Kayelee Smith (Jesse Floyd), Jake (Clarissa) Unger, and Olivia Wright; and 6 great-grandchildren, Brealeigh Smith, Jayce Unger, Gaige Unger, Teagan Unger, Jaxx Unger, and Ryker Unger. Patty is also survived by her sisters, Mary Jane McCall of Clarion, Nancy Weidner of Shippenville, Janet DiVito of Nevada, and Norma (Ken) Clark of Dubois; numerous nieces and nephews and her special friends, Chris Heinrich, Kevin Slike, and Emmy Hartle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Bailey, and 4 brothers-in-law, Gary “Beetle” Bailey, Clinton “Bub” McCall, Don Weidner, and Don DiVito. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses that took care of Patty in her final days. You truly are angels on earth. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion is handling the arrangements. A private graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Monty Sayers at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Clarion where inurnment will take place beside her beloved husband.
