Philip A. Kriebel

Philip A. Kriebel, 75, of Sligo, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born on July 24, 1939 in Dutch Hill; he was the son of the late Bernard and Tressa Murray Kriebel. A veteran, Phil served in the U.S. Navy as a E-3 Seaman completing courses BV 3 & 2. He was decorated with the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal at the end of his service. He was married on October 13, 1969 to Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) Switzer -Merryman, and she survives. Phil retired from Clarion University. He was a member of the Church of God in Callensburg. He served as a member of the Sligo Fire Department. He was also a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Club 2145 and American Legion Post 66, both of Clarion. Phil enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cherrie Jean Merryman-Miller and husband, William, of Bruin, Betty Jo Merryman-Marsh-McKinney and husband, Dennis, of Sligo, Ruth Ann Merryman-Myers and husband, Doug, of Shippenville, Samuel Harrison Merryman and wife, Amy, of Sligo, and Pamela Sue Kriebel of East Brady. Also surviving are sisters, Emma Jean Kriebel-Rankin-McBride of Emlenton, Helen Kriebel-Nunamaker of Cochranton, Carol Kriebel-Ireland of Rimersburg; a brother, Joseph Kriebel of Roseville; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Betty Joan Kriebel; a sister, Clara Charlene Kriebel-Hogue; and a brother, Reed Kriebel. Family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 66 of Clarion at 1:45 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. John Phillips, pastor of the First Church of God in New Bethlehem, officiating. Family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 66 of Clarion at 1:45 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
