Rose M. Selker

Rose M. (Schill) Selker, 91, of Shippenville, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home Friday morning, December 6, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 4, 1933 in Huefner; daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Catherine (Ditz) Schill. Rose graduated in 1951 from Saint Joseph Catholic School in Lucinda. She then started her working career at New Process Company in Warren. From there, Rose moved on to work at Owens Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion where she proceeded to work for the next 40 years until her retirement in 1994. On May 5, 1956, she married the love of her life, James A. Selker, who passed away unexpectedly in 2009. During their 53 years of marriage, Rose and Jim had 3 wonderful children, Debra Dodge and her husband, Jim, of Virginia, James Selker and his wife, Linda, of Valencia, and Linda Dechant and her husband, Lee, of Lucinda. Rose was blessed with 4 grandchildren whom she loved and adored deeply, Tony Dechant and his wife, Holly, Luke Selker and his wife, Megan, Lori Gadley and her husband, Wayne, and Andy Selker and his fiancé, Savannah, and 4 great grandchildren, Carter Dechant, Addison Dechant, Eleanor Selker, and Maverick Gadley. She is also survived by her 4 sisters, Rite Schiffler of Franklin, Marge Wolbert of Lucinda, Cass Best of Shippenville, and Nancy Schill of Erie. Rose loved being outside whether it was going for long walks or pulling weeds out of her well-groomed yard. She also enjoyed working on puzzles and word searches, playing cards with her family, reading, cooking, and spending time with her loved ones. In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Vince Schill, Don Schill, and Larry Schill and an infant sister, Doris Schill. Family and friends will be received from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers presiding. Interment will take place in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to extend their greatest thanks to the following people that have helped take care of Rose over the last few years: Karen Bauer, Cindy Selker, Mindy Maurer, Aggie Dechant, Steve Schill, and Mary Carnahan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Rose’s honor to the Clarion Cancer Center, 150 Doctors Lane, Suite 1, Clarion, PA 16214 or to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
