Selby Kline Proud

Selby Kline Proud, 89, of Clarion died on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his home. Born on August 17, 1924 in Streator, Illinois; he was the son of the late Selby and Freida Kline Proud. After graduating high school, he joined the US Navy and was a radio repairman in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry Riddle and a business degree from Lewis College in Joliet, Illinois. He was the owner and operator of Streator Air Service, a ceramic engineer for Ferro Corp. of Cleveland, Ohio and retired as Field service engineer for Seco Warwick of Meadville. He was a life member of the VFW and the Moose Clubs and Quiet Birdsman Pittsburgh Hanger. Kline is survived by his wife, Mary Liz Griebel Proud of Clarion; two sons, Selby J. Proud of Florida and Vernon K. Proud of Illinois; three grandsons, Scott Proud and wife, Michelle, of Kentucky, Selby V. Proud and wife, Kristy, of Illinois, and Justin Proud and wife, Melissa, of Illinois; and great grandchildren Brayden Proud, Summer Proud, Selby D. Proud, and Madison Proud. He is also survived by a sister, Martha Karis of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dottie Aukland; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy A. Proud. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 66 at 10:45 am on Thursday May 29, 2014 in the funeral home. Funeral Services will follow at 11 am with the Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church of Clarion, officiating. Entombment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be made to Charitable Deeds and Services, 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox, PA 16232.
