Thomas E. Osterried

Thomas Edward Osterried, age 77, of Lucinda, passed away with family by his side Wednesday evening, August 19, 2026, at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on October 30, 1948, in Brookville, PA, to the late Martin “Edward” and Anastasia Osterried. He graduated from Clarion Limestone High School, class of '67, and Dubois Business College, class of '69, where he met his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Gloria “Carol” (Wisor) Osterried. Tom honorably served his country for more than 20 years in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned several honors, including two Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, and three Army Achievement Medals. Tom’s service included deployments during the Vietnam War, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War, and Operation Noble Eagle following the September 11th attacks. He was rarely seen without his U.S. Army hat, which he proudly wore wherever he went. After retiring from the military, Tom continued serving the community as a Caseworker and Disability Advocate for Clarion County with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. He took great pride in advocating for individuals with disabilities, working to ensure they received the care and support they needed to improve their quality of life. Tom fulfilled a dream he had carried since the age of ten while also keeping a promise he made to his wife after the many years and sacrifices of military life. Together, they built their retirement home on the family's 405-acre farm in Lucinda, land that had been in the Osterried family since 1848. The farm was sacred and held a special place in Tom's heart. As a boy, he spent countless hours working alongside his grandfather, often sharing stories of long days on the farm that ended with what used to be a treasured reward: a bottle of Coke. While Tom's love for his country was evident throughout his life, the only thing he loved more was his family. Nothing brought him more pride or joy than the people he loved. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply spending time together, Tom treasured every moment with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, whether walking the woods with his faithful Labrador companions, Kokoa and later Sadie, riding his ATV, hunting, or tackling projects around the farm. Among his favorite possessions was his beloved Kubota tractor, which he would find or create any opportunity to operate. Tom leaves behind his wife, Carol Osterried; his three children, Dawn M. Kennison of Leeper, Kevin M. Osterried of Columbus, and Matthew T. (Bridget) Osterried of Pittsburgh; his three beloved grandchildren, Zakkery Kennison (Emily Simmons), Alayna Osterried, and Landen Osterried; and three siblings, Robert J. (Donna) Osterried of Franklin, Susann Osterried of Seneca, and Mary E. (David) Cyphert of Clarion. Family and friends will be received from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #066 of Clarion at 2:45 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jason Feigh, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion, presiding. Inurnment will take place at the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lucinda. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tom’s honor to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital online at stjude.org or to the Wounded Warriors Project online at woundedwarriorproject.org.
