Walter C. Lowman

Walter C. Lowman, 87, of Shippenville, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at his residence. Born June 3, 1924, in Brookville, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Hattie Carberry Lowman. A veteran, he served during WWII in the US Naval Armed Guard from 1943 to 1945, where he served as Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class and in Invasion of Normandy. Mr. Lowman was first married to the former Eleanor Smith, who preceded him in death. He then married the former Helen Neill, who also preceded him in death. He then married the former Rose Marchand, and she survives. He was an equipment operator, welder, and a pipeliner. Mr. Lowman was of the Baptist faith. He was a 32 degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge 277 of Clarion for 47 years and also a member of the Coudersport Consistory. Mr. Lowman enjoyed hunting, fishing, baking, and watching sports. He loved listening to country music and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deanna K. Wingard and her husband, Les, of Shippenville; a son, John L. Lowman, and his wife, Debra, of Shippenville; eight step-children, Arnold Marchand and his wife, Deb, of Knox; Mike Marchand and his wife, Karen, of Tioga; Richard Marchand and his wife, Erin, of Heritage; Randy Marchand and his wife, Lisa, of Virginia; John Marchand and his wife, Brandi, of Rimersburg; Monique Nellis and her husband, Chad, of Knox; Melody Hannold and her husband, Jeff, of Strattanville; and Randy Neill and his wife, Karen, of Kingsville; six grandchildren; nineteen step-grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first two wives, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Lowman and Stephen Lowman; four sisters; and three brothers. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011 in the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #66 at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011, in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011, in the funeral home with Pastor Don Dininny, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Clarion, officiating. Interment will be held in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.
