Dorothy Mae Hartle, 92, of Paint Mills Road, Shippenville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at her residence. Born Feb. 11, 1916, in Shippenville, she was a daughter of Christopher E. and Rosa Mae Best Schrum. She was married Nov. 21, 1935, to Cletus J. Hartle, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Hartle worked in the Clarion Hospital cafeteria before retiring in 1984. She enjoyed bus trips, word puzzles, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and her dog Chi-Chi. Mrs. Hartle was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by nine children, Catherine “Kate” Schmader, of Knox, Janice Beary and her husband, LeRoy, of Venus, Georgene Graham and Lou Torta, of Shippenville, Anita Wolbert and husband, Ted, of Franklin, Larry Hartle and his wife, Jean, of Leeper, Beverly Reinsel and Bruce McCool, of Clarion, Janie Schmader and Joe Bartuch, of Marble, Cyndi Hall and her husband, Calvin, of New Hampshire, and Ronald C. Hartle and his wife, Kim, of West Middlesex. Survivors also include 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; four sister-in-laws, Dorothy Schrum, of Oil City, Dixie Schrum, of Tionesta, Hida Crusan, of Shippenville, and Georgia Niederriter; and one brother-in-law, Donald Meier, of Conneaut, Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Carlton Schrum, Bill Schrum, Millard Schrum, Glenn Schrum, Chuck Schrum, Donald Schrum, George Schrum and Phillip Schrum; and three sisters, Mildred McIllahan, Ruth Hartle and Betty Meier. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 Sunday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home of Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday in the Immaculate Conception Church of Clarion with the Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor, presiding. Internment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA, Knox, 16232.
