Elizabeth H. “Betty” Mooney, 97, of Clarion passed away peacefully in her sleep after a steady decline in health on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Serenity House in Shippenville. She was born on June 13, 1919 in New Bethlehem; daughter of the late Carl E. and Lula McNutt Henry. Betty graduate from Clarion State College in 1941. She was married to John A. Mooney on March 4, 1942 and he preceded her in death on November 24, 2000. Mrs. Mooney taught elementary grades in Massillon, OH, Waco, TX, and Clarion, PA. She was always interested in children. Betty worked with Cub Scouts, Brownies, and Girl Scouts. She also taught Sunday school and Bible Study in her younger years. Betty was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion and also a member of AAUW of Clarion and Clarion Historical Society as well as active in various volunteer work after her retirement until her health prevented it. She is survived by her three children, John Henry Mooney and his wife Lynn of Zelienople, Barbara Ann Bigley and her husband William Edward of Olean, NY, and Marcia Sue Rearick and her husband Kevin L. of Clarion, her five grandchildren, and her two great grandsons. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Mooney and two brothers, Robert and Rolan Henry. As she requested there will be no public visitation and Funeral Services will be private with the Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion Forest VNA Hospice Pastor. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. The family suggests memorials be made to the Clarion Free Library, 644 Main Street, Clarion, PA 16214 or the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion, 700 Wood Street, Clarion, PA 16214.
