F. Jerome Hartle Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

F. Jerome Hartle, 88, of Clarion, died Thursday morning, January 28, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Shippenville. Born April 30, 1921, in Clarion, he was the son of Amos A. and Folsom Dunkle Hartle. He was married on June 20, 1945, at St. Michaels Church in Fryburg, to the former Lauretta F. Clawson, who survives. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Hartle was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was a bomber pilot flying over 30 combat missions in the European Theatre. His combat missions were in B-24 aircraft, but he was also qualified in B-17s and B-29s. He was decorated with the Air Medal, three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his discharge in 1945 from active combat duty, he was recalled to serve during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of Hartle’s Floor Coverings for over 50 years. Mr. Hartle was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. An avid hunter, fisherman, and NRA member, he enjoyed the outdoors and loved his hunting camp and his dog, Jake. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Steve Hartle and wife, Jean, of Cleveland, OH; Mike Hartle of Daufskie Island, SC; Pat Hartle and wife, Judy, of Hudson, OH; and Scott Hartle and wife, Carolyn, of Hermitage; and six grandchildren, Tessa, Haley, Shawn, Chris, Jessica, and Matthew. Also surviving are three sisters, Teresa Caldwell, Ann Magrini, and Madelyn Heagerty, all of Clarion. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Hartle, Richard Hartle, Clair Hartle, and infant Bobby Hartle; and sister, Jane Cyphert. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010, in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers presiding.
