Vera E. Gardner Vance Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Vera Elizabeth Gardner Vance, 78, of Sligo, formerly of Perryopolis, PA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at the Dubois Regional Medical Center in Dubois. Born April 21, 1931, in Layton, PA, she was the daughter of Dwight and Margret Raley. She was first married to Bobby C. Gardner, who precedes her in death. She then married Herbert Vance Jr., who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Vance was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Vance enjoyed watching the Steelers. She also enjoyed working outdoors, such as gardening and flowers. She is survived by her children, James A. Gardner and wife, Deb, of West Mifflin; Lawrence Gardner and wife, Cindy, of Perryopolis, PA; Margaret Laughery and husband, Sam, of Lemont Furnes; and Terry Humbert and husband, Gary, of Vanderbuilt; stepchildren, Herbert L. Vance and wife, Mary Ann, of Filbert; Cynthia Bassinger and husband, Grayden, of Adelaide; Debra Bates and husband, Chuck, of Scottdale; and Jennifer Coddington and companion, Ron Howes, of Filbert. Also surviving are close friends, Time and Cheri Lewis of Sligo; her cat, Binker; and also numerous grand children, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by brother, John Raley of Yuma, AZ, who died on January 4, 2010. There will be no services. A private burial will take place at a later date. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion is handling the arrangements.
