Veronica Eva Bernard, 88, of Clarion died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Clarion. Born June 14, 1922, in Stephenson, Michigan, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Gravel May. Mrs. Bernard was married on February 23, 1946 to Dr. Alpha E. Bernard, who preceded her in death on January 4, 1989. She worked as a clerk for Clarion University Bookstore for 28 years. Mrs. Bernard was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. She was a very active member of the community: she was a member of the Clarion Civic Club, where she looked forward to the Santa Shop Project; Immaculate Conception Guild; Clarion University Chapter of APSCURF; Historical Society; and American Association of University Women, where she attended many book review luncheons. Mrs. Bernard loved to play cards with neighbors and friends, crafts and knitting, and had fun picking berries and trying new recipes. She spent her winters in Florida and summers in Clarion. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and bus trips all over the United States. She also loved the Autumn Leaf Festival and looked forward to the parade every year. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene; and her siblings. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, presiding. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
