Edward L. Kifer

Edward L. Kifer, 89, of Route 68, Sligo, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at his home. Born October 15, 1921, in Belltown; he was the son of the late John Henry and Ruby May Dunkle Kifer. A veteran, he served as a Corporal in the Army during WWII in Australia, New Guinea, and Philippines. Mr. Kifer was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Clarion V.F.W., where he was past commander. Mr. Kifer was a construction worker for many companies throughout the years. He enjoyed working on tractors and doing yard work. Mr. Kifer is survived three sons, Edward L. Kifer and his wife, Denise, of State College; Larry E. Kifer of Clarion; and James F. Kifer and his wife, Joni, of Clarion; six grandchildren, Brad Kifer and his wife, Michelle, of Indian Trail, NC; Matt Kifer and his wife, Paula, of Myersville, MD; Christopher Kifer and his wife, Amber, of Williamsport, MD; Jeremy Kifer of Lawrenceville; Jeffrey Kifer of Clarion; and Jordan Kifer of Millvale; five great grandchildren, Zachery and Payton Kifer of Indian Trail, NC; Kaiden Kifer of Myersville, MD; and Ryan and Olivia Kifer of Williamsport, MD; and two siblings, Fred L. Kifer Sr. of Struthers, OH; and Bessie G. Kifer of Sligo. Also surviving are extended family, Nancy Sipes and her husband, Ralph, of North Huntington; Jackie Cooney and her husband, Chris, of Fisher; Jeff McMaster and his wife, Daneen, of Brookville; Steve McMaster and his wife, Anita, of Fisher; Christie Burkett and her husband, Curtis, of Fisher; and David Sipes and his wife, Tricia, of Trafford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, June Cotherman, Melvin Kifer, and Dorothy Bissett; and long time companion, Thelma Stewart. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #66 at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in the funeral home with Rev. James Dietrich, pastor of the New Rehoboth Greenville Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be held in Churchville Cemetery in Curllsville.
