George A. Judy

George A. Judy, 93, of North Third Avenue, Clarion, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice House. Born March 2, 1918, in Lucinda, he was the son of William and Melanie Schill Judy and was one of 12 siblings. His early years were spent working in the family owned clay mines and he became a World War II veteran before fulfilling his boyhood dream of playing baseball. George signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and played professionally through the late 40’s. Mr. Judy was married on July 22, 1950, to the former Virginia L. Smith, and she survives. He was retired from the Clarion Post Office Mr. Judy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #66. Mr. Judy was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing vegetables. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Dave Judy and his wife, Joyce, of N. Little Rock, AR; Vickie Hughes of Clarion; Brad Judy and his wife, Christina, of Charlotte, NC; Steve Judy and his wife, Susie, of Jacksonville, AR; and Joyce Adams and her husband, Rick, of Seaford, DE; and four grandchildren, J.D. Hughes of Raleigh, NC; Dani Hughes of Centreville, VA; and Ashley and Abby Adams of Seaford, DE. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathryn Gatesman and Rita Steiner, both of Lucinda; and one brother, Robert Judy and his wife, Nancy, of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Louise, Roy, Blanche, Ethel, Evelyn, Clyde, Betty, and Paul. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #66 at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, in the funeral home. Christian wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
