Maryann C. Speer

Maryann C. Speer, 89, of 16 East 8th Avenue, Clarion, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Clarion Hospital. Born August 29, 1921, in Clarion, she was the daughter of the late Clinton V. and Manila May McMillan Clark. She was married on September 25, 1948 to Albert T. Speer, who preceded her in death on March 24, 1989. Mrs. Speer worked as a payroll clerk at the Clarion State College. She retired as supervisor at the PA Department of Welfare in Clarion. Mrs. Speer was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #66 Women’s Axillary, Immaculate Conception Ladies Guild, Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union, and was a volunteer at Clarion Hospital. Mrs. Speer enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing Bingo, collecting antiques, and going to yard sales with her sister. She is survived by her five children, David M. Speer and his wife, Barb, of Clarion; E. Ann Speer of Clarion; Kevin L. Speer and his wife, Carol, of Brookville; Dennis C. Speer and his wife, Karen, of Clarion; and Kathy Heims and her husband, David, of Bessemer; and seven grandchildren, Katelin, Mackenzie, Jill, Brodie, Cameron, Allison, and Lisa. She was the leader of “The Secret Six”; and she is survived by the “Fabulous Five”, Jane Kinkead and her husband, Charles, of Apollo; Nancy Hess of Jacksonville, FL; Shirley McNamara and her husband, Jack, of DeLand, FL; Rose Marie Clark of Clarion; and Maureen Clark on Monroeville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Vincent Clark, Joseph Clark, and Thomas Clark, and an infant sister, Anastacia. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, presiding. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
