Rita M. Amsler

Rita M. Amsler, age 89, of Clarion, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, August 2, 2026, at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 19, 1937, in Fryburg, where she was raised and graduated from North Clarion High School. Rita was among four children of the late Alexander and Frances Smerkar Hahn. She married Gary Amsler on July 14, 1962, and they shared over thirty-three years of marriage until his passing on November 17, 1995. In her early years, she worked at the Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion before making the heartfelt decision to return home, where she devoted herself to raising her six children and caring for her family and home. Rita was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the Ladies Guild and the funeral team. Her commitment to her faith and willingness to serve others reflected the compassion, kindness, and generosity that defined her life. During her later years, she found great enjoyment in playing bingo with the friends she made while residing at Shippenville Healthcare. Rita leaves behind her five daughters, Bonnie Geyer and her husband, Greg, of Marienville, Connie Murphy of Georgia, Linda Amsler and her husband, John Young, of Strattanville, Jill Foys and her husband, Jimmy, of Lickingville, and Jackie Wright and her husband, Matt, of Miola; her daughter-in-law, Melinda Amsler of Sligo; eleven grandchildren, Kate Motter, Kacey Lawhon, Mike Staley, Tyler Amsler, Karley Sims, Eyon Shaffer, Andrew Foys, Benjamin Foys, Kyle Wright, Paige Malvey, and Nichole Pardus; and eleven cherished great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Bonnie Huth of Shippenville; her sister-in-law, Lois Crist and her husband, Bart, of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by her beloved son, Bruce Amsler; a son-in-law, Martin Murphy; a granddaughter, Kristy Young; two brothers, William Hahn and Don Hahn; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Mayola Amsler; a sister-in-law, Linda Hahn; and brother-in-law, Donald Amsler and his wife, Jacki. Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Saint Michaels Catholic Church in Fryburg with Rev. John Nwankwo presiding. Everyone, please meet at the church. Interment will follow at Saint Michaels Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rita's honor to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
